Leopard Location
Leopards have done better than other big cats in surviving changes to their habitats, or homes. This ability makes them the most adaptable of all the big cats. Leopards live in more places than any of the other wild cats. Leopards are found across most of Africa, the Middle East, and in southern and eastern Asia.
The African leopard is the most numerous and the most common type of leopard scattered across most Africa. The Zanzibar leopard, once living in the islands of the Zanzibar archipelago, is believed to be extinct now.
Even though leopards have been found in much of Asia, especially in the south, the overall leopard population in Asia is significantly less than that in Africa.
Amur leopards live in Siberia, northern China and Korea. Arabian leopards live in the Arabian Peninsula or in the Middle East. Persian leopards, including Anatolian leopards, are found in Southwest Asia. Javan leopards exist only on the island of Java. Sri Lankan leopards exist only in Sri Lanka. North Chinese leopards live in northern China. Indian leopards are found in India, Nepal, and Bangladesh. Indo-Chinese leopards dwell in Southeast Asian countries.
