Leopard Research
Many scientists and researchers study leopards to learn as much as possible about their behaviors and habits. Leopards are stealthy and secretive animals. They try to stay away from people as much as possible. It is not easy to find and observe leopards at a close distance in the wild. Scientists resort to some special tools to track leopard behaviors from a distance.
One such tool is the camera trap. Scientists set up cameras along trails in the forest or on the mountainside where are known as the leopard habitats. Each camera sends an invisible beam of light across the trail. The camera takes a photograph when an animal walks through the beam of light.
Another way is radio tracking. Researchers attach a radio collar to the neck of a captured leopard. Scientists can then track the leopard’s behaviors and habits by collecting the signals sent out by the leopard after it is released into the wild.
